OMIC Publishes Sample Notification Letter and Phone Script About Compounded Drugs

The FDA requests ophthalmologists notify patients who received injectable medications such as Avastin or Kenalog, or medications in conjunction with eye surgery, that were compounded by the New England Compounding Center (NECC). OMIC has prepared a sample notification letter. Please review it and make any changes you feel are necessary. Please consider sending this letter to all affected patients who received medications purchased from or produced by NECC after 5/21/12.

Many policyholders are fielding questions from patients. To assist you, OMIC has prepared a phone script. The first part of the script is for practices that obtained medications from NECC. The script will guide your staff in asking questions and documentation. The second part is for practices that did not obtain medications but are getting calls from patients. Please review it and make any changes you feel are necessary.

OMIC policyholders who need additional assistance on this issue are encouraged to call our confidential Risk Management Hotline at 800-562-6642, option 4.
