Robert Fante MD – Board Member

Dr. Robert G. Fante is a warm and caring person who enjoys getting to know his patients.  He is also an extraordinarily knowledgeable and accomplished physician, and is the editor-in-chief of the most comprehensive textbook ever created for the specialty of oculofacial plastic surgery. He loves working with people to help solve their problems and is undaunted by complex diseases.  He combines his expertise in surgery with an artistic sensibility and genuine compassion. Extensively trained in both facial surgery and oculoplastic (eye area) surgery, he’s a specialist in laser eyelid surgery, orbital diseases, and facial cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Fante is an ardent believer in teamwork and particularly recognizes the truth in Nelson Mandela’s philosophy of Ubuntu, which means, “I am because we are”. He works hard to be an effective team member with his patients, other physicians, surgery personnel, and his staff. You will feel a difference at his office, where his team strives to treat everyone as if they were members of the family.

Dr. Fante is a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and introduced cosmetic procedures such as the endoscopic cheek lift to Colorado.  He’s also the author of medical texts and research papers on facial reconstruction after skin cancer surgery, on endoscopic tear drainage surgery, on cosmetic eyelid surgery, and on thyroid eye disease (Graves Disease), among many others.

Dr. Fante is board certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery, and is also a member of many state, national and international medical societies. He is a clinical associate professor in the University of Colorado Medical School. He has received national achievement awards and has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Best Doctors” by several national organizations including Who’s Who, and by local organizations that have named him the “Best Facial Cosmetic Surgeon” in the Denver metro area.

Dr. Fante’s affiliations also include:

  • Fellow and Secretary of Education for the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology
  • Editorial reviewer for many scholarly journals
  • Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company committee member
  • Board member of the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the Harvard Park Surgery Center, and Boys Hope Girls Hope.

Dr. Fante graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Arizona. He completed his training in oculofacial plastic surgery at the University of Michigan, one of the premier institutions in the country. After serving for 4 years as a physician in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps, he moved to Denver, his wife’s hometown, in 1998. He is married and has three sons.  He enjoys skiing, bicycling, fly-fishing, and reading fiction and non-fiction.

For over two decades, Dr. Fante has been teaching the art and science of cosmetic and reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery to doctors from the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America. Dr. Fante also regularly serves on mission trips to bring free reconstructive surgery to impoverished areas in Latin America, most frequently to Peru, and also to Honduras and Colombia. In Denver, he volunteers as a specialty reconstructive surgeon at Denver Health Medical Center. Our practice also hosts physicians training in oculoplastic and facial surgery at the University of Colorado and elsewhere who come study with Dr. Fante. Our practice is a proud sponsor of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Colorado, Seeds of Hope Charitable Trust, National Jewish Medical Research Center, The Gathering Place, LIM359, and many others.

Six reasons OMIC is the best choice for ophthalmologists in America.

Consistent return of premium.

Publicly-traded insurance companies exist to make profits for shareholders while physician-owned carriers often return profits to their policyholders. Don’t underestimate this benefit; it can add up to tens of thousands of dollars over the course of your career. OMIC has one of the most generous dividend programs for ophthalmologists and has returned more than $90 Million to our members through dividends.
