Getting the Job Done: Successful Advocacy in Florida
OMIC Risk Management Committee member, Brad Fouraker and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO) president William J. Mallon recently announced the successful passage of new medical tort reform legislation by the Florida state legislature. A cooperative effort by the Florida Medical Association (FMA) and the FSO lead to passage of this legislation. Stephen Schwartz, member and past president of the FSO, played an integral role in securing passage of this bill, which has been signed into law by Florida Governor Scott.
One provision of the bill is the establishment of a Board of Medicine-approved cataract surgery informed consent document. This consent form is expected to be ready for use by 1/1/2012.
