Can OMIC cover practices owned by private equity firms?
Yes! Practices that provide predominantly eye care-related health services are eligible for coverage through OMIC, even if they are not majority-owned by ophthalmologists. OMIC can extend coverage to the private equity (PE) firm for its vicarious liability as well. Depending on the needs of the parent entity, separate policies can be issued to each group owned by the PE, or we can issue one common policy that insures all of the practices.
Insured practices are encouraged to contact their OMIC representative if considering sale to a private equity firm so that we can assist with coverage questions. OMIC is the exclusive carrier for several PE firms and an approved carrier for many others, so in most cases OMIC coverage can be maintained after the sale date.
