Recent Study of OMIC Claims Data Reveals Interesting Trends in Malpractice Claims Related to Physician Gender

In a recent study published by the American Ophthalmological Society, closed claim data was analyzed for differences in experience based on physician gender. OMIC Chair Tamara Fountain, MD authored the paper, which appeared in the July, 2014 edition of the society’s journal, and examined our company’s claim data over a 20 year period. The results reveal male ophthalmologists are significantly more likely than women to have reported malpractice activity. Claims against men were associated with more severe injury to the patient but were slightly less costly overall compared to claims against women. Read more….
