Highlights from the ASCRS and ASOA Winter Update 2014 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico

“What’s New in Technology” discussing techniques, procedures and updates in endothelial keratoplasty, the femtosecond laser, microinvasive glaucoma surgery, and more.

“Managing complex cataracts” studying specifically patients with the very, very dense and very, very loose lenses, as well as pseudoexfoliation cases.

“Refractive Surgery: Challenges and Improvements” addressing a number of different topics, like astigmatism, dealing with infections and choosing the correct procedures and lenses for particular patients.

“Ethics Interactive” covered practice and parameters for ethical guidelines. Four main points are autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice. He particularly highlighted non-maleficence and beneficence.
